Breaking the Fast

broccoli/cheddar/smoked gouda quiche with fresh berries

We’ve all heard it at one time or another, “breakfast is the most important meal of the day!” I am inclined to agree with this given we need fuel to function as well as we can. Just as you cannot expect your car to run on empty, you certainly cannot expect your body to perform all that it needs to without the proper nutrition. I personally love breakfast and consider it my favorite meal. Sweet, savory, or a combination – the possibilities are endless! Remember that when planning a meal, be sure you have chosen foods from different food groups and with different macronutrients, i.e. fat, carbohydrates, and protein. These will be bold face on the nutrition label. The best way to prevent a blood sugar spike from cereal/oatmeal/toast is to also consume a balance of protein and fat. Some examples include: whole grain oatmeal made with milk, banana, pb // whole grain toast, peach, scrambled egg // cherries, multigrain crackers, cheese stick for those mornings on the go // equal parts Greek yogurt and milk of choice, fruit, and spices blended then topped with a sprinkle of nuts and granola. I wanted to share some of my favorite creations below to hopefully give you new ideas if you’ve run into a rut. I hope these provide new inspiration to jump start your day right!
